The Creator. Meltí (coyote) Ipa (people) Jalá (moon) personification of the Coyote of the Moon People, the father of the entire cosmos and the personification of death, his abode was in the world of the dead. The world for the Kiliwa is a bag made with Meltí Ipa Jalá's own skin, inside it is everything that exists: the sky, the earth, men, stars, animals, etc. He divided the world into two parts: The one that is contemplated and enjoyed (where one hunts, gathers and camps) and another ethereal and mysterious. Both are part of the same reality. The final act in the creation of the world according to the Kiliwa myth is the creation of human beings, the Coyote-moon-people god made four dolls that came to life after being cooked on a mountain for thirteen lunations. He then sent each of them to the corresponding mountain and cradle. The first men or fathers defied their creator, and joined with the sacred animals. From these municipalities the four Kiliwa clans were born, who had one of the sacred animals as their totem. After his death he became "Jalá" (the moon).
