VESPUCCI collection includes the videos made during the Presence Painting performance by James Arax. For several years, James has been performing the Presence Painting (3P) performance during which he creates an augmented portrait of a person (traditionally called the model) invited in his workshop.for a couple of hours. 3P goes far beyond traditional portrait painting. The artworks of Presence Painting, whether paintings, photos, videos, digital pieces record the subtle traces of the presence of the model on the support. Each work represents a particular moment associated with the level of the presence intensity of the model. This augmented portrait is composed of a set of works created on different media.This set of works is made in several stages whether in the presence or in the absence of the model. Step 1/ In the presence of the model: a video of the painting session entirely filmed by the model with (remonte control), a large painting on canvas called the MATRIX and model shooting photos in front of the MATRIX. THE PARISIAN JOURNALIST is also the title of the MATRIX painting (78.7x66.9in) made during the performance Presence painting performance n°32 Season 5 by James Arax in 2010. Step 2/ In the absence of the model: a series of paintings on paper, photos of the physical works in situ in the workshop. Step 3/ James Arax is currently working on the 3PAX.IO project with the creation of exchangeable digital cards mined on the blockchain in an NFT collection. Each work represents a particular moment associated with the intensity of the presence of the model in the workshop. The MATRIX and the model shooting photos are the performance masterpieces with the maximum presence intensity. James Arax has made a hundred performances of presence painting (3P) with people of all nationalities… Women graphic designers, journalists, business leaders, but also church men like the pope of the Armenian church, financiers of the city in London, architects, politicians, writers... The first performance was performed live at the Centre d'art contemporain Pompidou in Paris in 2006. The public was then invited to appear before James sitting in a chair making drawings on a notebook reproduced on a giant screen. The public could play with their image via screens and zoom.
